Radioactive Waste Advisers

There is a requirement set by the UK Environment Agencies that nuclear facilities who operate in accordance with the Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR) (to use radioactive material, or who accumulate or dispose of radioactive waste), to appoint and/or consult with a Radioactive Waste Adviser (RWA). Our RWAs have extensive radioactive, hazardous and non-radioactive waste management experience in both operational plants and on nuclear decommissioning projects. Areas of expertise  include developing Integrated Waste Strategy Plans; waste characterisation; preparing Best Available Technique (BAT) assessments; preparation of Radioactive Waste Management Cases; production of activity/hazardous assessments, providing guidance on the processing, packaging and consignment of wastes and delivering waste management training.

Radiological Protection Services

Led by our industry recognised corporate Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA), our Radiological Services Team is made up of RPAs, Radiation Protection Supervisors (RPS) and Radiation Protection Technicians with extensive hands-on experience in the nuclear industry.  This highly skilled team, is able to offer a full Radiological Protection services compliant with the Ionising Radiation Regulations (IRR99). Our advisory services are based on hands-on field experience, encompassing best practices which adhere to local and international standards.

Our Radiological Services includes:

  • Designing and performing radiological protection and characterisation surveys in occupational, decommissioning, waste management and environmental situations
  • Developing and delivering characterisation strategies (direct monitoring and intrusive sampling) and perform site clearance of materials and wastes
  • Providing general radiation safety training
  • Preparing Radiation Protection Risk Assessments (RPRA) to identify project specific risks and define specific personal and respiratory protective equipment (PPE and RPE)
  • Specifying, providing, training and use of appropriate and latest technology radiological monitoring instrumentation
  • Provision of radiation dosimetry from approved services

Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA)

If during the course of your business or project you have the need to transport dangerous goods (e.g. hazardous and radioactive materials and wastes), you are required to appoint or consult with a qualified Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser(s).

Our DGSAs and transport advisers are available to provide advice and prepare guidance for specific or unique transportation projects and limits; prepare or review required documents for transportation of hazardous and radioactive materials and waste, develop transport lashing plans and provide comprehensive training to our client’s on transportation requirements.  We can also perform routine inspections and provide transport container certifications.
